Some 175 years ago, here in Northern California, the famous “gold rush” was on as thousands of prospectors descended on the Sierra Nevada, and in the Bay Area, to set up shop, and camp, to chase their dreams of striking it rich. And here were are at the home of the San Francisco 49ers – a franchise named after the massive gold rush of 1849.  Other names you may be familiar with – Levi Strauss, Wells Fargo, Leland Stanford – all struck it rich during the gold rush even though they never spent one second panning for gold. Fast forward 175 years, and the latest gold rush is in full swing in Northern California and a new class of companies are looking to strike it rich but have no intention of manufacturing IoT devices or building IoT apps. The gold for these companies is the data and “mobile exhaust” that is being produced by these new devices, apps, sensors, and beacons and this session will explore the data explosion across IoT and where the investment and development opportunities are moving forward as this modern-day gold rush takes form.
